OCT 2020: Two Baycroft staff shortlisted in care awards

Lu Lawrence, activity coordinator at our Flitwick home and Chris Pilgrim, head chef at our Great Baddow have been shortlisted as finalists in the Great British Care Awards.

Lu was put forward as a nominee in The Care Home Activity Organiser Award within the East of England region, which recognises those who who have demonstrated they can provide a ‘needs led’, varied and appropriate programme for care home residents.

Since joining the team last year, Lu has become a real asset at Flitwick, who especially excelled during lockdown with her innovative ways of keeping the residents in communication with their loved ones.

Maria Dinu, general manager at Flitwick said:  
“Lu is an energetic, friendly and welcoming member of the team who is responsive to the needs of the residents, their families and also the team. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Lu and she regularly will go above and beyond to ensure the residents are well cared for and have the best possible quality of life”.

Chris was put forward as a nominee in The Care Home Cook/Chef Award within the South East region, which recognises the ‘whole home approach’ to food and nutrition issues within the care home.

Chris was put forward as a nominee in The Care Home Cook/Chef Award within the South East region, which recognises the ‘whole home approach’ to food and nutrition issues within the care home.

Since joining the home in 2018, Chris had a vision to bring the resident’s dining experience and wellbeing to the next level. Armed with motivation, charisma, experience and a great ability to work in a team, Chris has excelled within his role.

Sabbi Gavrailov, Head of Hospitality said: 
“This is highly deserved recognition of Chris’ passion, skill, knowledge and drive for continuous improvement. He has developed a strong relationship with all the residents so he fully understands their needs and can tailor the menus accordingly”.

The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector.  The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

There are twenty one awards categories available for nomination, which represent all areas of the social care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care. From frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training and innovation.

The winners will be announced at a Gala Evening in April 2021.
