On Thursday 23rd May, Baycroft Grays Farm Road held a lavish afternoon tea for its residents, their families and the local community in support of Dementia Action Week.
This national initiative, spearheaded by the Alzheimer’s Society, aims to encourage everyone to take action by starting a conversation with someone living with dementia. Their research shows that many people are worried about ‘saying the wrong thing’ to people living with dementia. And despite almost all of us knowing someone affected, two-thirds of people living with dementia report feeling isolated and lonely.
What better way to start up a conversation with someone living with dementia then over tea, delicious cakes, fizz and some music classics to encourage reminiscence. All money raised at the event went to the Alzheimer's Society.
Baycroft Grays Farm Road is a 75-bed home offering residential, nursing and dementia care. There is a dedicated floor for those living with dementia which is specifically designed to be dementia friendly, from the colour and contrast of the carpet to the lighting, room arrangement and artwork.
