Rita Bone, resident at Baycroft Great Baddow, was granted her wish to return to Channels Golf Club for a lunch with her friends and reminisce over all the wonderful times she had there.
This was made true by the Activities team initiative to hold Red Letter Days at Baycroft Great Baddow as part of an array of various other events for residents. The activities team go the extra mile to ensure that residents enjoy life at Great Baddow. This involves spending time chatting with them to get to know them and their stories to help them relive moments from their past or fulfil their dreams.
Rita was a busy professional juggling family and work in her younger years. Whilst having tea with a friend one day, it was suggested to play a round of golf together. Rita laughed and said she would never have the time for that and all she ever played was pitch and putt. However, she went along to give it a go and the rest is history!
Rita was a member for over 25 years and was the founder member of the Ladies of Channels Golf Club. She became Lady Captain shortly afterwards. There is now a cup tournament in her name which has been played every year for the past 45 years.
Rita’s wish was to return to her beloved golf club but thought it impossible due to her circumstances living in a care home. The team at Baycroft made it possible for her to return for a lovely lunch day out for Rita with a few of her new friends, where she was treated like royalty.
Rita shared many memories of her day at the club, including tournaments and trophy ceremonies which involved getting dressed up in elegant ball gowns. She achieved many holes in one in her time, which meant she had to buy a round of drinks for everyone in the clubhouse as per tradition.
Upon her arrival Rita felt a bit sad with the many dramatic changes around the Clubhouse. However, she was soon made to feel right at home, had the opportunity to chat with staff and was really happy to meet again some of the staff from way back who are still working there.
Rita was so thrilled with the whole experience of returning to the place which held so many wonderful memories.
